IHG Hotels & Resorts has debuted its avid hotels brand in New York, US, with the opening of avid hotel Brooklyn – Dyker Heights.

Situated in Brooklyn, the property is owned by SUNSHINE BROOKLYN.

The hotel will have 76 right-size rooms featuring black-out roller shades and sound-reducing features.

avid hotels Atwell Suites & Garner VP Karen Gilbride said: “This year marks the fifth anniversary since we opened the first-ever avid hotels property in Oklahoma City – Quail Springs. The opening of the avid hotel Brooklyn – Dyker Heights demonstrates our brand’s focus on growing our presence in the Americas region.

“We created this brand to meet the needs of our guests looking for the basics done exceptionally well at a fair price and in convenient locations, so it made sense for us to open a property in one of the most visited states and cities of the world.”

The new property will also provide free breakfast, with grab-and-go items and freshly ground coffee served 24/7.

Located 25 minutes away from New York City, the hotel targets travellers seeking relaxation during their journeys to or from big cities.

Additionally, it offers lodging to visitors exploring Brooklyn or attractions, including the Coney Island Lighthouse, among others.

avid hotel Brooklyn - Dyker Heights general manager Naji Kotob said: “We are thrilled to welcome avid hotels not only to New York but to one of the city’s fastest-growing boroughs.

“This hotel will meet the everyday travel needs of both business and leisure travellers, whether visiting the area or passing through.”

Currently, the brand has over 60 hotels in operation throughout the US, Canada and Mexico, with an additional 146 properties in development.

The brand’s upcoming and recent openings include avid hotel Tuscaloosa – University Area, avid hotel Tulsa Hills, and avid hotel Fort Worth Downtown.

The metaverse may accelerate the travel industry’s recovery, though only compelling use cases will lead to adoption

Large travel and tourism organizations have begun exploring use cases for the metaverse following the devastating impact of the pandemic. Current applications either focus on digital marketing campaigns with real-world rewards for consumers, creating immersive experiences on-site for digitally savvy consumers through AR and VR metaverses, or improving operational efficiency through digital twin technology. However, its adoption by smaller operators will remain limited until use cases are affordable and provide a guaranteed ROI.
