Cotati Hotel is set to break ground on the first hotel in Cotati, Sonoma County, California, following five years of planning, permitting and delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Press Democrat reported that construction of this hotel is anticipated to finish in August next year. To be built on a two-acre land close to Highway 101, Cotati Hotel will feature 153 rooms, five suites, a lounge bar, a fitness centre, outdoor seating, a plaza and a marketplace.
The plaza will be located in between the market and the hotel and will include a live music stage, a space for local artists and an area for wedding celebrations.
The marketplace will comprise a 6,000ft² dining space area, which could feature an in-house restaurant. The restaurant is currently in the planning stages and additional information will be released before the hotel opens.
According to Cotati city manager Damien O’Bid, Cotati is the only city in Sonoma County without accommodation facilities and the hotel will improve the downtown area by serving as a gateway for locals and tourists to explore the city.
O’Bid was further quoted by the publication: “It will help all the businesses in the area and, hopefully, catalyse additional development in the downtown core.”
In 2017, the Cotati City Council permitted the sale of land to Santa Rosa native and developer Ken Molinaro for approximately $2.4m to develop the property.
Molinaro intended to develop the property into a Reverb hotel, a brand of the Hard Café International hotel and restaurant chain. However, this plan fell through and it was later decided the hotel would be operated independently.
