Extendam, an investment company with a focus on the hotel sector, has announced the acquisition of two iconic Sofitel properties in Europe.

Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese in Rome, Italy; and Sofitel Lisbon Liberdade in Lisbon, Portugal, are the latest additions.

Located in Rome, Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese is a 78-room hotel situated in a 19th-century palazzo between Villa Medici, Via Veneto, and the Villa Borghese gardens.

This property is near to several touristic sites, luxury boutiques, and important corporate headquarters.

The hotel, which underwent a revamp in 2018, offers a classic contemporary style that blends Italian lifestyle with French elegance.

It features a restaurant, a roof terrace with panoramic views, a fitness centre, and meeting rooms. Extendam has appointed Ring a Bell Hospitality as the asset manager for the hotel.

In Lisbon, Sofitel Lisbon Liberdade is a 163-room hotel located on the Avenida da Liberdade, and is close to tourist attractions such as Sao Jorge Castle and the Barrio Alto district.

It offers a gourmet restaurant, a bar, a banquet area, a fitness room, and meeting spaces. A refurbishment is planned to enhance the property’s sustainability and help it align with the latest Sofitel brand standards.

Overseeing the acquisition, Extendam manager Inès Haack said: “We plan to renovate all rooms, increase the number of suites, and create a spa and wellness area within the hotel.”

Extendam manager in charge of the operation Maxime Durand said: “To finance this operation, we contracted a Green Loan with the support of Crédit Agricole Corporate Investment Banking teams in Milan. This first collaboration with CACIB marks also our entry into the Roman hotel market.”

DG Invest, a long-standing partner of Extendam, will manage the hotel's assets.

Sofitel, MGallery and Emblems CEO Maud Bailly said: “For 60 years, Sofitel has embodied French luxury hotels, with the desire to blend harmoniously this “little piece of France” with local cultures in each of our 120 hotels around the world.

“42% of all Sofitel hotels are currently eco-certified, and 100% of them will be qualified as such by the end of 2025.

“Sofitel is thus paving the way for a committed luxury, where beauty, experience and emotion join responsible and sustainable fundamental for each stay.”
