Fiji Gateway Hotel, located opposite Nadi International Airport, is undergoing expansion work to add new deluxe rooms and suites.
Construction work on the expansion project starts this month, with completion anticipated by October next year, Hospitality Net reported.
It involves the development of a new two-storey accommodation building.
The development will introduce 47 new guest rooms and suites, all providing rural views and modern amenities. Of these new accommodations, 44 will be deluxe rooms and three will be two-bedroom suites.
According to Fiji Gateway Hotel’s parent company Raffe Hotels and Resorts CEO Lee Pearce, the deluxe rooms will be equipped with a King bed and a fold-out sofa.
The two-bedroom suites will feature two queen beds.
The new building will sit on an unused section of the property, ensuring the hotel's character remains intact.
Fiji Gateway Hotel’s growth from 95 to 135 rooms next year includes plans to decommission several older rooms.
Post-expansion, the hotel will remove some outdated rooms to make way for fresh landscaping and new pathways, connecting the new rooms with the hotel's main reception and dining areas.
Launched in 1969, Fiji Gateway Hotel offers a gym, two swimming pools, a tennis court, a boutique store, a mini day spa, conference facilities, a restaurant, a bar, as well as a poolside café.
The property, which is referred to as an “old-world colonial oasis”, is 8km from the town of Nadi.
