Fortina Investments has revealed plans for a €35m ($38.17m) redevelopment project at its five-star hotel in Sliema, Malta.

This project has been in the making for five years. Opened in 1966, the 183-room Hotel Fortina is now operated by Barceló Hotel Group.

The revamp will include the addition of 73 rooms, 64 luxury apartments, a public open space, a spa, gym, an office block, parking facilities, and restaurants.

Additionally, the five-star property have spaces for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions.

Spread across 60,000m² of area, the project is expected to be completed by mid-2024, reported The Malta Independent.

Malta's Prime Minister Robert Abela inaugurated the project of regeneration and renovation. The Zammit Tabona family set up Fortina Investments.

Abela said: "It is crucial that we go to the next leap by continuing to improve the quality of the tourist product that our country offers."

Maurice and Walter Zammit Tabona opened their first 40-bedroom, Tigne Court Hotel in the country, establishing Fortina Investments in 1948.
