Canada-based Germain Hotels has announced the launch of its 19th property in Canada, called Alt Hotel Calgary University District.

This marks the group's third location in Calgary, following the opening of Le Germain Hotel Calgary in 2010 and Alt Hotel Calgary East Village in 2018.

It's also the group's first property launch in Canada since 2019.

Germain Hotels vice-president of marketing and sales Marie Pier Germain said: “We take immense pride in introducing our second Alt Hotel in Calgary, located in the dynamic community of University District.

“This hotel opening is a special one for us, as it’s our first one since the end of the pandemic. We look forward to providing our guests with an extraordinary stay while they explore the city and surrounding area, whether they are travelling for business or leisure.”

Located in the centre of the University District, Alt Hotel Calgary University District features 155 pet-friendly guest rooms, targeting both business and leisure travellers.

It also offers meeting and event space spanning 4,000ft² with four meeting rooms, one creative lounge and two boardrooms.

Among the amenities provided at the hotel are a complimentary 24/7 gym and on-site underground parking.

Additionally, it features 100% Canadian-made beds, locally sourced bath products in every room and a collection of local art displayed in its lobby.

Situated at 482 Mclaurin Street NW, Calgary, Alberta, the hotel provides access to the Trans-Canada Highway.

Guests at the property also have access to nearby facilities such as the University of Calgary, the Alberta Children’s Hospital, Foothills Medical Centre, Olympic Oval and more.

Germain Hotels additionally announced that the construction of the Alt Hotel Ottawa Airport will commence shortly.

It was initially announced in 2019 but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This will be Germain Hotels' third property in Ottawa and the third airport hotel for the chain, joining Toronto's Pearson International Airport as well as Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

It will include 178 guest rooms, a gym, meeting rooms and a full-service restaurant.

Expected to open in 2025, the hotel is being developed at an estimated cost of $55m.
