Grupo Puntacana has revealed development plans for its ultra-luxury hotel project, Playa Serena, at the Playa Serena Puntacana Resort in the Dominican Republic.
This was revealed during the 44th edition of the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR 2024) in Madrid, Spain.
The hotel is set to merge nature with luxury and exclusivity, catering to 160 guests with 75 suites, five overwater villas, a beach club, three restaurants, one themed restaurant, one beach restaurant, four bars, and eight spa bungalows.
The announcement was made by Grupo Puntacana executives, including founder and board chairman Frank Rainieri, board member Haydée Rainieri, CEO Frank Elías Rainieri, chief marketing officer Paola Rainieri, and chief financial officer Francesca Rainieri.
The project is expected to open in 2026.
Grupo Puntacana CEO Frank Elías Rainieri said: "The Playa Serena hotel will elevate the hospitality experience at Puntacana Resort. We are very excited, as it is a new concept that will drive the Dominican Republic's tourism industry for years to come."
In a strategic move to bolster tourism, Grupo Puntacana has also entered an agreement with Meliá Hotels International and the Bergantín Trust, supported by Banreservas, to develop a third hotel in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.
The five-star hotel will be managed under the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand and feature 300 rooms.
This agreement includes the management of a 100-apartment condo-hotel. The project represents an investment exceeding $70m.
The opening of this project is also scheduled for 2026.
