Hilton has announced a franchise agreement with Bohemian Hotels to open the Akureyri "Skáld" Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, in the northern Icelandic countryside, and a new property in Iceland´s capital city, Reykjavik.

The Akureyri "Skáld" Hotel, Curio Collection is scheduled to open in summer 2025 and offers 70 rooms, a lounge and lobby bar, an all-day restaurant with an outdoor courtyard, and a social club concept.

The Akureyri area has become a key tourist attraction due to its proximity to the Diamond Circle and Arctic Circle for whale watching or observing the Northern Lights.

A second Hilton property, located in Brietartún, Reykjavík, will open in spring 2026, offering premium lifestyle accommodation under one of Hilton´s brands, with more details to be revealed towards the end of 2024.

Situated adjacent to the historic Freemasons' Hall and the Hlemmur area, the 170-key property will emphasise natural materials and offer an immersive experience in Icelandic hospitality.

The properties will further bolster Hilton´s existing portfolio of four hotels in Iceland: the Reykjavik Konsulat Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, the Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik City Centre, the Iceland Parliament Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton and the Hilton Reykjavik Nordica.

Hilton vice-president of development UK, Ireland and Nordics, Nick Smart commented: “Hilton‘s lifestyle brands have consistently generated opportunities for growth in European markets and, together with owners like Bohemian Hotels, we are excited to further establish our presence in Iceland.”

According to GlobalData’s report Travel & Tourism in Iceland 2023, the country’s leading source markets include the US, the UK, Germany, Poland and France.
