Driving responsible travel through "Green Breakfast"

In line with COP28's focus on food, agriculture, and water, Hilton has introduced its "Green Breakfast" initiative.

The initiative aims to proactively track and measure food waste, as well as implement interventions that direct consumer choices. Through this, Hilton said it will be contributing to the global food index via the United Nations Environment Programme and will also be supporting food waste reduction targets in the UAE through collaboration with ne’ma The National Food Loss and Waste initiative.

This ambitious project, aiming to reduce food waste by 50%, aligns with United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal 12.3.

With 13 hotels participating, Hilton tackles the global issue of food waste, a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.

Local sourcing and agritech partnerships

Hilton emphasises local sourcing through a partnership with Fresh on Table, an agritech platform.

By sourcing more than 700 tonnes of local produce annually, Hilton not only reduces its carbon impact but also supports local farmers.

The move towards sustainability includes hotels actively engaging in composting, sustainable gastronomy and food donations, showcasing a comprehensive approach to reducing their environmental impact.

UAE Hilton Hotels leads sustainability charge

Each Hilton property in the UAE embraces sustainability uniquely.

From receiving the Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp to partnerships with sustainability startups, hotels are making strides. The Conrad Dubai collaborates with the Waste Lab to convert food scraps into organic fertilisers, while DoubleTree by Hilton – Business Bay transforms coffee grounds into fertilisers for mushroom-growing.

In Abu Dhabi, Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island showcases a chef’s garden with guava trees, while Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers manages a zero-waste hydroponic farm, generating 10 kilograms of local produce daily.

Hilton's commitment extends to the Northern Emirates, where DoubleTree by Hilton Fujairah City has a sustainability garden and Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Beach Resort features an organic garden.

In Sharjah, DoubleTree by Hilton Sharjah Waterfront Hotel & Residences has adopted energy-saving measures and water-saving aerators to ensure a sustainable and comfortable stay.

Hilton's multifaceted approach to sustainability and community impact takes centre stage at COP28, exemplifying the brand's commitment to responsible and purposeful business practices.
