Hilton has signed a franchise agreement with investment manager Annexum to launch two hotels in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, next year.

Both Mainport Hotel Rotterdam, Curio Collection by Hilton and DoubleTree by Hilton Rotterdam Centre, which will open in 2024 following renovations, were acquired by Annexum.

These two properties will mark the debut of the Curio Collection by Hilton and DoubleTree by Hilton brands in Rotterdam.

Joining Hilton Rotterdam and Motto by Hilton Rotterdam Blaak in the Dutch city, the two properties will continue to operate as Hilton affiliate hotels during the renovations.

Hilton senior vice-president of development for Europe, the Middle East and Africa Patrick Fitzgibbon said: “Hilton has a proud legacy in the Netherlands dating back more than 60 years and we’re actively growing our portfolio to cater to customer demand, with 18 hotels now trading or under development.”

Mainport Hotel Rotterdam, a Curio Collection by Hilton will feature 215 guest rooms, which will offer views of the River Maas and the city.

Guests can enjoy dining at its on-site bar and restaurant, which will serve a selection of dishes and cocktails.

It will also feature 600m² of conference and event space spread across ten meeting rooms and a spa and fitness facility on the top floor.

DoubleTree by Hilton Rotterdam Centre, situated in the adjacent building at the base of the Erasmus Bridge, will feature 265 guest rooms offering waterfront and city views.

The hotel will feature a bar and restaurant, a spa and a swimming pool.

Meeting rooms will occupy the 15th and 16th floors of the DoubleTree by Hilton Rotterdam Centre.

The two properties put together can accommodate 800 guests for meetings and events.

Both hotels will provide easy access to Leuvehaven metro station and Rotterdam's tram network, as well as offer private parking spaces with EV charging stations.

Among the nearby attractions include the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Old Harbour, Maritime Museum Rotterdam and Cube Houses.

Mainport Hotel Rotterdam, Curio Collection by Hilton and DoubleTree by Hilton Rotterdam Centre will add to the existing 15 properties in the Netherlands under various Hilton brands.

The metaverse may accelerate the travel industry’s recovery, though only compelling use cases will lead to adoption

Large travel and tourism organizations have begun exploring use cases for the metaverse following the devastating impact of the pandemic. Current applications either focus on digital marketing campaigns with real-world rewards for consumers, creating immersive experiences on-site for digitally savvy consumers through AR and VR metaverses, or improving operational efficiency through digital twin technology. However, its adoption by smaller operators will remain limited until use cases are affordable and provide a guaranteed ROI.
