A recent meeting between Milan's tourism leaders and Green councillor Elena Grandi has highlighted the impressive sustainability efforts of Hotel Milano Scala, shedding light on its innovative practices aimed at reducing its environmental impact.

Grande and the hoteliers discussed the city's tourism landscape and the future of sustainability initiatives.

Innovative green initiatives

Hotel Milano Scala has implemented a number of environmentally friendly initiatives over the years. These have included the use of a Mitsubishi air conditioning system that recovers condensed water heat and a rooftop terrace with a garden supplying the kitchen with fresh produce, adhering to its farm-to-table philosophy.

The hotel has improved its air quality thanks to numerous plants and a filtration system, recycles organic waste through composting systems and participates in Borsino Rifiuti's Smart Circular City project.

Recognition and certification

The hotel has been listed among the 36 most sustainable hotels globally in the UK National Geographic Traveller's Earth Collection guide.

It also has top sustainability ratings on prominent travel platforms such as Booking.com, Expedia.com and TripAdvisor.com.

Hotel Milano Scala recently obtained DCA (Dream & Charme, an independent Italian certification body] ESG [environmental, social and governance] certification in recognition of its sustainable practices.

A step towards sustainable tourism

The decision of Hotel Milano Scala to pursue DCA ESG certification underscores its dedication to sustainable tourism. According to Giorgio Caire di Lauzet, CEO of Dream & Charme, such certifications are crucial for the tourism sector and demonstrate forward-thinking approaches to sustainability.

Vittorio Modena, the administrator of Hotel Milano Scala, emphasised that sustainability is an ongoing journey rather than a destination. The hotel's efforts stand as an example of how businesses can play a role in promoting conscious and sustainable tourism practices.

Ultimately, Hotel Milano Scala's innovative sustainability initiatives not only contribute to environmental conservation but also set a precedent for the broader hospitality industry to follow suit in prioritising sustainability in their operations.
