The 70-room Thompson Rome will be the second Thompson Hotels property in Europe.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation is set to introduce its Thompson Hotels brand in Italy with the opening of Thompson Rome.

The 70-key luxury lifestyle hotel is scheduled to launch in the middle of next year.

It will be the second Thompson Hotels property in Europe, following Thompson Madrid.

Thompson Rome will launch through the restoration of the historic building that was once the headquarters of the Italian Communist Party.

The hotel will preserve key historical elements, including an entrance hall designed by sculptor Giò Pomodoro and a marble bust of Antonio Gramsci, the party's founding member.

It will also comprise four dining outlets, which include a rooftop restaurant and terrace having a cocktail bar with panoramic city views. The hotel further features two meeting rooms, as well as a fitness centre.

The expansion of the Thompson Hotels brand reflects Hyatt's growth strategy in the luxury and lifestyle segment. Plans are also on to launch Thompson Vienna in 2025.

AG Group president Andrea Girolami said: “Hyatt shares our vision of delivering a refined hideaway in the heart of Rome that combines a casual sense of luxury with refined rooms and layered design throughout for an authentic experience.”

Hyatt real estate and development regional vice-president Nuno Galvao Pinto said: “We know that there is a growing appetite amongst today’s travellers and developers for hotels that cater to culturally savvy guests and bring a modern approach to conventional hospitality.

“We are excited to meet this demand with one of the most exciting new hotels in Rome as we continue to scale our luxury, lifestyle and leisure brands across the region.”
