Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has signed an operating lease for the Taj Hotel Hessischer Hof in Frankfurt, Germany.
The hotel, which will reopen in 2025, will mark IHCL’s debut in Europe.
Following renovations, the hotel will become part of the Taj Hotels collection.
IHCL managing director and CEO Puneet Chhatwal said: “This is a milestone in IHCL’s journey as we expand our footprint in key international gateway cities.
"Frankfurt, a vibrant metropolis, is one of Europe’s most dynamic destinations. We are very proud to gain a foothold in such an iconic structure and to be able to reopen it with new splendour.”
IHCL has teamed up with European investment manager Peakside Capital Advisors for this project.
Peakside Capital Advisors partner Simon Lutz said: “Right from the start, the most renowned hotel operators showed strong interest in the Hessischer Hof.
“A key reason for the choice of the internationally renowned hotel group IHCL was their many years of demonstrable experience as an excellent operator of luxury hotels. Through our joint plans, we will build upon this hotel’s rich legacy under the new brand.”
Peakside Capital Advisors managing partner Boris Schran said: “Frankfurt is a major international crossroads where we will set new standards for luxury hotels while also achieving a milestone as the first Taj hotel in continental Europe.
“We are confident that our new concept will offer exactly what German and international travellers are looking for as they come to Frankfurt.”
In 1952, the hotel was built on the grounds of a former city palace, owned and managed by the Prince of Hessia as a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.
Situated near the Frankfurt trade fair grounds, the hotel will feature 134 rooms, Jimmy’s Bar and an exclusive business club called The Chambers.
It will offer meeting rooms and other amenities such as a spa, a fitness centre and a winter garden.
The hotel will feature Bombay Brasserie, a restaurant that serves diverse Bombay and Indian cuisine. This restaurant has existing locations in London, Cape Town and Dubai.
In August 2023, IHCL signed its first hotel in Jorhat, the cultural capital of India’s Assam state, under the Ginger brand.
