IHG Hotels & Resorts has taken the lead in guestroom entertainment technology after claiming to have become the first hospitality company to offer Apple AirPlay in its North American hotels.
The initial rollout encompasses over 60 properties across the continent, including well-known brands like InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Hotel Indigo, and Holiday Inn & Suites.
Through AirPlay, guests can securely stream content from their iPhones or iPads directly to their in-room LG smart TVs. This eliminates the need to rely on limited hotel entertainment options or use cumbersome cables.
For a seamless experience, guests scan a unique QR code to connect to the hotel's Wi-Fi network and the LG TV. This unique code ensures privacy and guarantees the streamed content goes only to the designated TV in the room.
"When people travel, we know they want to take some of the comforts of home with them – whether that’s watching their favourite shows or finishing a movie they started,” said Jolie Fleming, Chief Product & Technology Officer at IHG Hotels & Resorts.
“As the first hospitality company to integrate AirPlay, IHG Hotels & Resorts is leading the way in making the guest experience even more personalised, enabling guests to enjoy content smoothly and securely on their in-room TV. Whether guests are traveling for business or leisure, this offering will undoubtedly become a favourite feature, creating a home-away-from-home entertainment environment like never before.”
The move to incorporate AirPlay aligns with IHG's commitment to continuous improvement through technological advancements.
This not only enhances the guest experience but also creates value for hotel owners by potentially increasing guest satisfaction and loyalty. Additionally, innovative partnerships like this can contribute to improved operational efficiency.
