IHG has announced plans to expand its portfolio with its first Garner branded properties in Japan, according to a press release posted on HospitalityNet

The expansion is scheduled for the second half of this year, with three conversion properties in Osaka, which will add more than 500 rooms to IHG's growing estate in the country.

A letter of intent has been signed between IHG and Axe Management Partners, for Garner's debut in Japan.

Axe Management Partners founder and managing partner Sam Lau said: “This partnership further demonstrates our confidence and commitment in the long-term prospects of the Japanese real estate market and hospitality sector.

“We foresee this strong market trend will continue, and will further deploy capital in hospitality and other sectors across asset classes, to add to our global portfolio.”

Before rebranding, the three Osaka properties will undergo renovation to enhance the guest experience, including updates to the arrival process, common areas, and guest rooms.

The refurbished hotels will embody the Garner ethos, focusing on delivering guest values such as convenient locations, welcoming amenities upon arrival, and more.

They will offer a range of benefits, including breakfast, complimentary coffee in the lobby, and 24/7 access to snacks in the Garner Shop.

Additionally, the hotels will be part of the IHG One Rewards programme, which offers points and benefits, including late check-out, room modernisations, and Milestone Rewards.

Launched in August 2023, Garner is a midscale conversion brand which aims to expand to more than 500 hotels within the next ten years and 1,000 properties over the next 20 years.

The first Garner hotel opened in Seattle shortly after the brand's launch, and the Japan announcement marks the first international letter of intent for the brand.

The upcoming Osaka hotels are located near key attractions and transport hubs, including the Midosuji shopping street, Dotonbori entertainment area, and Honmachi Station.

They are also within an hour's travel from Kansai International and Itami airports and close to the 2025 World Expo site on Yumeshima Island.
