IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced its plans to debut its Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand in Portugal with the signing of Kimpton Algarve São Rafael Atlántico.
Scheduled to welcome guests in 2025, the hotel is signed under a franchise deal with Highgate Portugal.
This addition further bolsters the Kimpton brand’s presence within IHG's European 'Luxury & Lifestyle' portfolio, with 93 operational hotels and 57 more in development.
IHG Hotels & Resorts VP development for Europe Willemijn Geels said: “This signing shows the confidence that owners have in our Luxury & Lifestyle expertise, market knowledge and enterprise, as well as the appetite that guests have for the Kimpton brand. It promises to be a stunning hotel and we look forward to welcoming our first guests in 2025.”
Highgate Portugal CEO Alexandre Solleiro said: “We are proud to bring the first Kimpton hotel to one of Portugal’s most popular tourist destinations together with IHG Hotels & Resorts.
“We’ve seen the success of the brand across Europe in countries like Spain, France, the Netherlands and the UK and we think this hotel will be a perfect addition to the portfolio. We are delighted to work together to realise the full potential of this property and show our continued investment in the local area.”
Located in the Algarve region, the hotel will feature 149 guest rooms along with over 1,300m² of meeting space.
Guests at the property can enjoy various dining options as well as a wellness experience with indoor and outdoor pools, a gym and a full-service spa.
The hotel's interior design will take inspiration from the Algarve's natural and cultural elements, including vibrant orange groves, azulejos and ceramics.
This beachfront hotel will be located near Sao Rafael beach and the historic resort town of Albufeira, providing guests access to shops, 18th-century churches and bars.
IHG currently runs 19 hotels in Portugal under six different brands, namely Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, InterContinental, Six Senses and Vignette Collection.
