UK-based hospitality company IHG Hotels & Resorts has unveiled new prototype options for its Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites, and Atwell Suites brands.
These prototypes are designed to offer developers increased flexibility in various site configurations and market types, emphasising space optimisation and efficiency potential.
The options, which supplement existing designs, cater to a range of property types, including new builds, conversions, and dual-brand or adaptive reuse projects.
The new design options for Staybridge Suites include the Smart Studio room configuration, which reduces room bay size to 13ft, catering to guests on shorter stays.
Approximately 25% of the room mix may include this new type, which maintains essential zones for work, sleep, and relaxation while optimising kitchen and storage space.
Candlewood Suites introduces the Beacon 4.2 design, enhancing land use and building density.
This variation reduces the room bay size to 12ft and includes a fully equipped kitchen and the brand's signature recliner.
It also offers flexible room mixes and designated work areas, potentially adding up to 12 additional keys per site.
Atwell Suites presents two lobby layout options, including a new one-storey, centrally loaded design.
This complements the existing two-storey end-loaded model, both maintaining versatile work and dining spaces. A slimmer room bay option also allows for up to 12 additional keys on a similar site footprint.
IHG US and Canada mainstream brands senior vice-president of development Kevin Schramm said: “IHG continues to build on our nearly three decades of leadership in the extended stay and suites space by evolving our prototype designs to increase owner value while offering the spaces and amenities short- and long-term travellers value most.
“Our new concepts reflect guest and owner feedback, and enable new and existing owners to deliver our modern suite experiences – in various forms – to more markets without compromising consistency or quality.”
These prototype options are set to be available by the second quarter of 2024, with the first properties featuring them expected to open as early as next year.
The designs will initially be available for US properties, with the possibility of future adoption in Canada, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
Recently, the Atwell Suites brand expanded in the US with the opening of Atwell Suites Austin Airport in Texas, an 80-room hotel catering to extended-stay guests.
