JW Marriott has expanded its presence in the Maldives with the opening of the JW Marriott Kaafu Atoll Island Resort.
This marks the brand's second resort within the archipelago, offering a “luxurious retreat” within a 15-minute boat ride from Velana International Airport.
Situated in Kaafu Atoll's largest lagoon, the new property features 80 private pool villas, including 47 that are situated overwater.
Each villa features a terrace that overlooks the Indian Ocean, along with direct access to lagoons.
The resort also features a three-bedroom Ocean Residence, for families or groups seeking a retreat with “panoramic” ocean views.
JW Marriott vice president and global brand leader Bruce Rohr said: "JW Marriott Kaafu Atoll Island embodies our dedication to blending unparalleled luxury with holistic well-being, offering guests a peaceful escape where every detail is designed to inspire balance and rejuvenation.
"With the Maldives' natural beauty as a backdrop, we aim to provide an exceptional experience that deeply resonates with those seeking tranquillity, mindfulness, and world-class service. We look forward to welcoming guests to this extraordinary destination, where they can truly disconnect and find harmony."
The resort's design, conceived by Turkey-based architect Cuneyt Bukulmez of Atolye4N, integrates local Maldivian aesthetics with contemporary features.
The arrival jetty, taking inspiration from the Maakana heron's flight, sets a thematic tone for the resort's overall design.
Villas mimic traditional 'Gedhoru' huts with kajan roofs and turquoise doors while interiors are decorated with materials such as timber and stone.
JW Marriott Kaafu Atoll Island Resort has partnered with INVENA in its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
In partnership with the Self-Assembly Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the resort has introduced a 30m-long underwater coastal structure to mitigate wave action and prevent beach erosion.
Culinary experiences at the resort span seven dining venues and bars.
Meanwhile, the Spa by JW features treatments using BABOR skincare products and the hotel offers adventure sports options such as snorkelling, diving, dolphin safaris, parasailing, and sunset cruises among other marine activities.
JW Marriott Kaafu Atoll Island Resort general manager Srikanth Devarapalli said: "When envisioning this resort, every detail was carefully crafted to reflect the timeless beauty of Maldives, with a focus on creating not just a memorable vacation, but an unforgettable journey.
"Our goal is to provide guests with a true sanctuary, where luxury and well-being converge. With JW Marriott's signature warmth and hospitality, we invite guests to fully immerse themselves in the magic of the Maldives, nurturing both the mind and body."
