LG Electronics is introducing Apple Airplay into its hotel TV offering, allowing guests to share content from their iPhone or iPad to their guest room TV.
To access their personal entertainment apps and accounts in hotel rooms, guests will connect their iPhone or iPad securely to the LG smart hotel TV by scanning a unique QR code with no logins or separate app required.
Hotel operators will begin offering AirPlay capability on LG smart hotel TVs in the second half of 2023. It will only be available on 2023 LG smart hotel TVs and recent models.
LG Electronics develops displays, including smart TVs, informative open-frame displays for lobbies and other signage options for hotel premises. Its main competitors in the hospitality TV market are Samsung and Philips.
LG Business Solutions USA’s vice-president of hospitality Michael Kosla commented: "This is a major advancement for in-room entertainment in the travel and hospitality industry. Hotels that offer this feature will have an immediate leg-up with travellers who use Apple devices, boosting guest satisfaction while providing real differentiation from local competition."
Hospitality TVs differ from average TV products through features such as volume management, TV channel locks and security settings which give hoteliers full control over the devices.
