Maharashtra Tourism has unveiled a comprehensive plan to unlock the Indian state's tourism potential, aiming to attract both domestic and international visitors while fostering trade collaborations within the state.

Recognising the region's diverse landscapes, vibrant cities and rich heritage, the plan emphasises sustainability, innovation and stakeholder engagement to position Maharashtra as a must-visit destination.

One of the key initiatives is the launch of an artificial intelligence-powered WhatsApp chatbot providing an interactive and informative platform for trip planning in both English and Marathi. This user-friendly tool allows travellers to explore the state's cultural heritage, natural beauty and diverse attractions directly from their mobile phones, making trip planning easier.

Ten female-owned owned and operated businesses will be registered in each district of the state in sectors such as homestays, hotels and restaurants, and tour and travel agencies. The initiative to support female entrepreneurs in the tourist industry fosters economic empowerment among women, contributing to a more inclusive and diverse tourism ecosystem.

Recognising the growing demand for unique and personalised experiences, the plan also places a strong focus on promoting niche tourism sectors like agri-tourism, wellness and adventure tourism.

  • Agri-tourism offers immersive experiences in rural life, farm stays and culinary offerings, showcasing Maharashtra's agrarian roots.
  • Ayurveda tourism taps into ancient healing traditions, attracting wellness seekers.
  • Adventure tourism capitalises on Maharashtra's natural beauty, offering escapades such as trekking, water sports and wildlife safaris.

To facilitate investments and business partnerships, Maharashtra Tourism will actively engage with industry leaders, chambers of commerce and trade associations.

Targeted initiatives and promotional campaigns aim to attract entrepreneurs and investors to explore the state's potential and untapped opportunities across the hospitality, travel, food and beverage and handicrafts sectors. Streamlining regulations and policies will further enhance the ease of doing business in the state.

With its focus on innovation, inclusivity and sustainability, Maharashtra Tourism's plan is poised to generate significant revenue and jobs, contributing to the state's economic growth and prosperity.
