Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India (MHRIL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu, India.

This collaboration is expected to enhance tourism and create employment opportunities in the region.

MHRIL plans to invest Rs8bn ($96.23m) to develop three greenfield resorts over the next five to six years in the state.

This initiative is expected to generate employment for more than 1,500 individuals.

The planned resorts will also support the company's expansion goals, aiming to double its room inventory from 5,000 to 10,000 by 2030.

This venture marks MHRIL's second-largest investment after the Rs10bn ($120.28m) allocated for projects in Uttarakhand last year.

Club Mahindra, MHRIL's flagship brand currently has resorts in Ooty and Kodaikanal.

In 2021, the brand opened JKR Resort & Spa, a 78-room resort in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.

This property offers a range of outdoor activities including spa therapy, scuba diving, bird watching and more.

The brand now offers more than 2,000 curated experiences across more than 125 resorts around the world catering to its extensive member base of 290,000 families.

MHRIL’s resorts are spread across various locations, including Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Mahabaleshwar, and Tungi.

In line with the company’s aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, the new resorts in Tamil Nadu will strive to be net zero energy, water and waste facilities.
