US hospitality brand Marriott International has entered a partnership with Hainan Qianrui Industrial Development to introduce its W Hotels brand in Sanya city in China’s Hainan province.
Called W Sanya, the new hotel is expected to open in Q2 2028.
Located in Sanya Bay, the hotel will be 4km from Sanya Phoenix International Airport, offering convenient access to local attractions such as Tianya Haijiao, Dadonghai Beach and Phoenix Island.
The 15-storey avant-garde building, designed by WATG of Singapore, will feature a rooftop terrace.
The interior design, led by Yabu Pushelberg, will include 260 guest rooms and suites, with more than half boasting ocean views.
The hotel aims to provide guests with an array of amenities including an outdoor pool with a skyline view, four signature restaurants and bars, and signature facilities such as the WET deck, FIT fitness centre and AWAY Spa.
W Sanya will also cater to business and event needs with 1,533m² of conference and event space.
Marriott International Greater China chief development officer Gavin Yu said: “We are thrilled to be working with Hainan Qianrui Industrial Development to bring W Hotels to Sanya, Hainan, inviting guests to indulge in the modern charm of the tropical coastal city through a distinct lens of luxury.
“We look forward to continuing to expand our luxury portfolio in Greater China in line with our 'Brand + Destination' development strategy and align W Hotels with complementary destinations to cater to the ever-evolving luxury global traveller.”
This addition to Marriott International's portfolio will strengthen its presence in Greater China, where it currently operates nearly 70 luxury hotels, including six in Hainan.
The announcement of W Sanya follows Marriott's recent agreement with Victoria Park Hotels to launch its Autograph Collection in Hong Kong early next year.
