Hospitality giant Marriott International has announced a partnership with Reliance Ventures, the investment arm of Reliance Egypt, to bring a Moxy hotel to downtown Cairo.
Scheduled to open in 2029, the hotel will be part of a large-scale redevelopment project transforming former Ministry of Interior buildings known as the Lazoughly complex into a mixed-usage hub.
The Lazoughly complex will also feature office spaces, co-working areas, retail outlets, restaurants and "edutainment" facilities.
“There is a growing demand for more lifestyle hotel accommodation options in downtown Cairo, and Moxy Hotels will be a great addition to the city’s hospitality landscape with its playful and stylish experience,” said Shady Hassan, vice-president of development North Africa, Marriott International, in a statement.
Reliance Ventures chairman Magdi Kassabgui echoed the sentiment, highlighting how the project aligns with their vision of creating a vibrant urban centre:
“This vibrant development embodies our vision of an urban community where business, education and entertainment converge. This landmark will reflect Reliance's commitment to revitalising downtown Cairo as a premier tourist destination.”
“This project is in line with the fund’s aim to work on repurposing projects that will help regenerate the area and utilise assets that are rich in architectural and heritage value,” added Amr Elhamy, CEO of the Sovereign Fund of Egypt's tourism, real estate and antiquities subfund.
“Moxy Cairo Downtown will be a unique offering within the area that will cater to the growing trend of experiential and lifestyle travel.”
The hotel will offer modern, functional rooms and suites targeting young-spirited travellers.
Guests can expect a well-equipped fitness centre, lively common areas, a convenient grab-and-go concept, and communal tables with ample workspaces.
The location in downtown Cairo places the hotel near iconic landmarks like Tahrir Square, the Egyptian Museum and the Cairo Opera House.
The River Nile is also easily accessible, and the surrounding area offers historic architecture, commercial buildings and bustling markets.
