Marriott International, in collaboration with Concord Hospitality, has started the construction of its first StudioRes branded property in Fort Myers, Florida, US.

This milestone further signifies the launch of Marriott's new affordable midscale extended stay brand ‘StudioRes’ in the US and Canada.

The StudioRes brand, which was first announced in June 2023, is set to cater to guests seeking longer stay accommodations with affordable price options.

The new hotel is being developed by Concord Hospitality in partnership with Whitman Peterson. It is expected to open in spring (between March and June) 2025.

Beginning of construction at Fort Myers StudioRes property was marked by an official ground-breaking ceremony.

It was attended by Marriott International president and CEO Tony Capuano alongside other senior officials from Concord Hospitality and Whitman Peterson.

Concord Hospitality plans to develop around 50 StudioRes properties across major US cities, with this Fort Myers hotel being the prototype.

Several of the upcoming StudioRes hotels are expected to break ground in the coming months, Marriott said.

The 124-room, 54,000ft² property is anticipated to be Marriott's most affordable cost-per-key product development option.

The StudioRes hotel will offer fully furnished studio rooms with kitchens and queen beds, tailored mainly for extended stays.

Various public amenities that will be offered at the new hotel include daily coffee service, laundry room, a fitness centre, a communal table, vending area, as well as a covered patio.

Marriott International US and Canada global development officer Noah Silverman said: “The groundbreaking of the first StudioRes hotel is a significant milestone for Marriott, as we continue to work toward our goal of expanding offerings to meet the needs of guests for every stay purpose.

“Taking a new build brand from announcement in June to groundbreaking in January is thrilling, and we're grateful for longstanding relationship we have with Concord Hospitality and Whitman Peterson to bring the StudioRes vision to life.”

In September last year, Marriott International launched another midscale brand, “Four Points Express by Sheraton”, to address the demand in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
