Millennium Hotels and Resorts launches sustainability drive

Millennium will concentrate on key operational areas in a concerted effort to minimise its environmental footprint.

Millennium Hotels and Resorts has unveiled its new sustainability initiative, the Millennium’s Green Path Brand Playbook, aligning itself with the goals of COP28.

The initiative underscores the hospitality company’s recognition of its environmental impact and sets a target to achieve a 27% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 across scopes 1, 2, and 3 [Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard classifications of emissions from particular resources].

Millennium will concentrate on key operational areas in a concerted effort to minimise its environmental footprint. Initiatives will include the implementation of LED lights, guestroom motion sensors and heat pumps to enhance energy efficiency.

As part of its commitment to reducing water-usage intensity, the company will install water sub-meters and deploy water-saving devices wherever feasible.

Holistic waste reduction and responsible sourcing

Waste reduction takes centre stage in Millennium's environmental strategy, with practices ranging from bulk amenities to improved waste segregation and recycling processes.

The company works actively with its suppliers, prioritising those with sustainable practices, ethical operations and commitments to reducing packaging.

Local, renewable and ethically sound sources are preferred.

Community-centric and guest-engaged sustainability

Community support is integral to Millenium's sustainability initiative, with a focus on job creation, training opportunities and support for local charities.

The company actively engages guests through awareness campaigns and materials, fostering eco-friendly practices during their stay.

Fahad Abdulrahim Kazim, CEO at Tetra Hospitality Investment and Millennium Hotels and Resorts Middle East and Africa, said in a statement: “This commitment extends beyond mere words, as we actively integrate sustainable practices and thoughtful initiatives into every facet of our operations. By prioritising environmental stewardship, community engagement and the long-term health of our global home, we strive to leave a positive and lasting impact on the world we share.”
