The Nest, a family-operated resort located in Drakensberg’s Champagne Valley area of South Africa, is set to be put up for auction, according to Independent Online.

Broll Auctions and Sales has revealed that the auction will take place on 22 November 2023, at the Wanderers Club in Johannesburg. Broll Auctions and Sales is responsible for the auctioning.

The resort will be sold as an existing business, as a single package that will be inclusive of its assets, goodwill, liabilities and ongoing operations.

Jayson-Lee Collins, the sales manager for the auctioneer, stated that the owners of the resort, Stuart and Shelley Longmore, have decided to retire, leading to the sale of the property.

Broll Auctions and Sales CEO Norman Raad said: “The unpretentious ‘old-world charm’ of the hotel persists today, as various owners over the years have improved and upgraded without disturbing the true heritage of the Drakensberg.”

Raad further revealed that the sale comprises the entire 45ha property, which was originally built as a guest house in 1933.

Situated in the Champagne Valley area of KwaZulu-Natal's Central Drakensberg, the resort provides views of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Mountains.

The resort can accommodate up to 137 guests across its 56 guestrooms, featuring various layouts, including garden rondavels and double-storey garden units.

Guests can dine at the resort’s main restaurant as well as enjoy morning and afternoon tea on the terrace.

The property has a conference centre as well as space for wedding ceremonies.

It also offers an array of amenities, such as a swimming pool, a spa and a tennis court.

Guests at the property can enjoy activities such as quad biking, archery, mountain biking, canopy tours, hiking, trail running and hot air ballooning.

Additionally, the property is close to the cultural site of the Battle of Spion Kop.
