Hospitality group Ennismore, in alliance with Shivom, has announced the signing of Mama Shelter Downtown LA in California, US.

Expected to open in early 2026, this will mark the brand’s second property in Los Angeles after the launch of Mama Shelter LA in Hollywood in May 2015.

Mama Shelter Downtown Los Angeles is owned by Harry and Kevin Wadhwani of Shivom.

In collaboration with Sammy Chotirmal of Hospitality Solutions, Shivom plans to transform the location of the new hotel.

Ennismore Brand COO and Head of Central and Southern Europe Cédric Gobilliard said: “We are thrilled to be opening a second Mama Shelter in LA.

“Los Angeles is a place to live life to the fullest, carrying so many fundamental values of the Mama brand, including her irreverent, popular, sassy and sexy personality, which fits perfectly with the glamour of LA. We look forward to bringing Mama's spirit to the city again with partners with Shivom LLC.”

The existing Mart South Building will be converted into the new Mama Shelter hotel, which will offer 149 rooms, consisting of 145 standard rooms and four suites.

Dining options at the hotel will include three F&B outlets, including an all-day dining restaurant and café on the ground floor, as well as a rooftop bar and terrace with views of the city.

Other amenities include a fitness facility and a parking garage.

The property will incorporate signature design elements that reflect Mama Shelter’s personality, such as graffiti carpets and ceilings as well as cartoon masks.

It will also offer signature comfort foods along with Mama Nights for festive gatherings.

Located in the city’s fashion district, the hotel is adjacent to the California Market Centre and within walking distance of Santee Alley and the Los Angeles Flower District.

The metaverse may accelerate the travel industry’s recovery, though only compelling use cases will lead to adoption

Large travel and tourism organizations have begun exploring use cases for the metaverse following the devastating impact of the pandemic. Current applications either focus on digital marketing campaigns with real-world rewards for consumers, creating immersive experiences on-site for digitally savvy consumers through AR and VR metaverses, or improving operational efficiency through digital twin technology. However, its adoption by smaller operators will remain limited until use cases are affordable and provide a guaranteed ROI.
