ONYX Hospitality Group in Bangkok has announced a significant step in its journey by partnering with UNESCO for cultural sustainability and setting a target to achieve carbon neutrality.

This collaboration marks the first of its kind for a hospitality management company in the Asia Pacific region and underscores ONYX’s commitment to sustainability.

The partnership with UNESCO aims to protect and promote cultural heritage and community-based tourism, focusing on locations where ONYX operates. This includes Thailand, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, and Laos.

ONYX is on track to exceed 50 properties by 2025 and strives to expand its portfolio to 70 properties by 2028.

ONYX’s sustainability framework, in collaboration with UNESCO, will integrate cultural experiences into its hotels and resorts, allowing guests to connect with local cultures and contribute to the preservation of heritage.

Additionally, the hospitality group has embarked on a project with WWF Thailand to transform environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, promote sustainable food systems, and engage in environmental conservation efforts.

Last year, 11 properties of ONYX achieved Carbon Footprint for Organization certification from the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization, marking a significant achievement in the company's sustainability efforts.

The group’s new initiatives reflect a comprehensive approach to sustainability, encompassing cultural preservation, responsible consumption, and environmental stewardship while aligning with its brand and service culture.

Cultural sensitivity and local community engagement are essential for enhancing the hospitality industry.

By incorporating local culture and traditions, ONYX creates memorable experiences for guests, adding authenticity and depth to properties.

With this approach, travellers will be able to connect with the destination and its local community on a profound level.

These initiatives not only enrich the guest experience but also contribute to the socio-economic development of local communities.
