Protea Hotels by Marriott, a part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, has expanded its footprint with the launch of two new properties in Angola and South Africa.
The new properties include Protea by Marriott Luanda in Angola and the Protea by Marriott Pretoria Hatfield in South Africa.
Protea by Marriott Luanda is strategically located between Luanda's city centre and Talatona, featuring 84 guest rooms and suites.
The design incorporates contemporary furniture in African-styled terracotta colours, with locally sourced materials.
Dining options at the hotel include Múcua, an all-day restaurant offering a blend of Portuguese and Angolan cuisines, and a rooftop bar with panoramic views.
Additional amenities comprise an outdoor pool with a waterfall and a fully equipped gym.
Protea by Marriott Pretoria Hatfield has 203 modern guest rooms.
The African Restaurant and Bar provides a fusion of global and African flavours, and the property includes a 30-seater bar and five conference venues.
Its location offers convenient access to diplomatic, government and corporate offices, as well as shopping, entertainment, and sports facilities.
Marriott International Europe, Middle East, and Africa, Premium & Select Brands vice-president Sandra Schulze-Potgieter said: “This month we celebrate four decades of exceptional service and genuine African hospitality. What better way to commemorate this milestone than by further strengthening Protea Hotels’ legacy with our first hotel in Angola and the ongoing expansion of the brand in South Africa.
“Both properties will combine contemporary comfort with a deep appreciation for local culture and heritage, offering guests a unique and enriching stay.”
Since its inception in July 1984, Protea Hotels by Marriott has seen significant growth.
From the initial four hotels in South Africa, the brand now encompasses more than 60 properties across nine African countries, including Nigeria, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and the latest addition, Angola.
In June 2023, Marriott International expanded its Protea Hotels by Marriott portfolio with the signing of five deals in Africa.
