Asian-based Silks Hotel Group has revealed that its luxury hotel Regent Taipei in Taiwan has joined EarthCheck Certified status.

This alliance positions the hotel at the forefront of the global drive for environmental responsibility in the travel and tourism sector.

EarthCheck is a scientific benchmarking certification and advisory group operating in over 70 countries, guiding luxury hotels as well as government bodies to adhere to rigorous standards.

It ensures that the members uphold environmental, socio-cultural and economic indicators.

Joining the certification programme further bolsters the hotel’s aim to sustain ecological balance and follow sustainable development principles.

Regent Taipei has contributed to greenhouse gas reduction, enhanced energy efficiency, preservation of local ecosystems and management of social and cultural impacts.

The hotel implements the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals by offering sustainable dining, eco-friendly travel packages and promoting responsible consumption.

It also focuses on developing a knowledgeable workforce that is dedicated to sustainability.

EarthCheck business development and sales vice-president André Russ said: “Our collaborative efforts with Regent Taipei are set to propel Taiwan towards international sustainability standards, fostering global environmental preservation and a profound respect for our planet.”

Regent Taipei general manager and group chief operating officer Simon Wu said that the partnership aims to set a new sustainability standard in Taiwan's tourism sector.

Currently, Silk Hotel Group owns and manages Regent Taipei, along with five hotel brands comprising Silks Place, Wellspring by Silks, Silks Club, Silks X and Just Sleep.

Gen Z and their impact on the travel and tourism industry

Gen Z has been called the most disruptive generation ever by Bank of America, and its influence is on the rise at a time of great uncertainty. Gen Z's focus on local and micro-tourism is reshaping the industry towards a more sustainable, community-centric, and culturally enriching approach to travel. This shift is not only influencing the destinations and activities that are popular but also the way travel companies market and provide services to cater to the preferences of this generation.
