Ask:PATRIZIA has selected UK-based construction company Russell WBHO to develop a £48m ($61.4m) dual-branded hotel at Baltic Quarter on Gateshead Quayside.

French hospitality company Accor will operate this property under its Novotel and ibis brands. UK-based Vine Hotels will manage the property.

The 344-key hotel will include a range of amenities, such as restaurants, bars, a business meeting area and a resident’s gym.

The property will be on a 0.5-acre plot of land near the intersection of Quarryfield Road and Hawks Road.

Gateshead Council in the UK approved the planning application for this 180,898ft², nine-storey hotel in March.

Russell WBHO intends to begin work on this two-year construction project before the end of 2023.

UK-based architect firm AHR Architects designed the property.

Pedestrian pathways and crossings network will connect the hotel to the Quayside development spaces and to the Gateshead town centre.

The construction project is expected to generate up to 75 full-time hospitality jobs, and 40 new positions across the regional supply chain.

Russell WBHO managing director Gareth Russell said: “As a recognised specialist in hotel construction, we are extremely pleased to confirm our appointment to this new project in Gateshead.

“We take a collaborative partnership approach to delivery and our team is working closely with the client and the local authority in readiness for a project start later this year.”

The hotel is facilitated in part by the government’s £20m Levelling Up grant that Gateshead Council received earlier this year.
