Nordic-based Scandic Hotels Group has announced the implementation of the Oracle Hospitality OPERA Cloud platform, a cloud-based IT solution.

The preparations commenced in the autumn (September to November) of 2022 and the solution is currently in the process of linking all hotels and central functions.

This transition will provide better management, booking and pricing capabilities, as well as enhance the guest experience and increase efficiency.

Scandic Hotels Group president and CEO Jens Mathiesen said: “Scandic’s partnership with Oracle is in line with our strategy to constantly improve the guest experience and create an even more cost-effective operating model.

“Investing in our digital development is an investment in the future where we see excellent opportunities to exploit more economies of scale and increase our growth and profitability.”

The work for implementation of the solution commenced in January 2023, with the expectation of integrating all hotels and most central functions into the new platform by the first half (H1) of 2024.

Scandic's team members will have more time to enhance guest value through improved work tools and reduced administrative tasks.

This transition will offer guests seamless booking as well as check-in and checkout experiences.

The platform, claimed to be built on modern infrastructure, aims to create new commercial opportunities and initiatives.

Additionally, it provides faster data management, resulting in pricing advantages and improved operational and information security.

Oracle Hospitality executive vice-president and general manager Alex Alt said: “As the first partner to go live on the new OPERA Cloud Central, Scandic will benefit from having all its core operational functions in the same platform.

“Standardising its operations on OPERA Cloud will enable Scandic to connect all the relevant data together with analytics to deliver real-time insights to departments across all locations. Not only will this create better efficiency across all of its core functions, but also create better guest experiences and revenue-generating opportunities.”

Scandic has commenced the successful integration of OPERA Cloud into its daily operations.

Following the linking of all Scandic hotels, the company plans to construct an integrated ecosystem across the entire Scandic network.

Currently, Scandic has 280 hotels and 58,000 hotel rooms in operation, as well as in the development pipeline across over 130 destinations.
