Nordic hotel operator Scandic Hotels has signed a long-term lease deal for two hotels in Finland with landlord Projekti GH Oy.

Situated in Helsinki, these properties consist of a 232-room Scandic Go hotel and a 227-room Scandic hotel, with both hotels expected to open in 2028.

Scandic Hotels Group president and CEO Jens Mathiesen said: “We have a high level of activity at Scandic and we’re continuing to strengthen our position in attractive key destinations where we see great potential.

“The Helsinki region is expected to generate about 5 million hotel nights from 2026, which is why establishing these two hotels is an important milestone in our growth strategy. It’s also exciting to present our first Scandic Go, Scandic’s brand in the fast-growing economy segment, in the Finnish market.”

With the launch of the two hotels, Scandic Hotels anticipates becoming an exclusive hotel operator at Garden Helsinki, which is a large urban development project that is 2km from the heart of Helsinki.

Garden Helsinki will be a multi-functional event arena in the Töölö district and will serve as a hub for sports, entertainment, dining, office space and apartments.

It is expected to become an indoor entertainment venue, hosting both domestic and international events.

Due to Garden Helsinki’s proximity to the city centre and many attractions in the surrounding area, there is an expanding demand for hotel rooms all year round from both business and leisure travellers.

Scandic Hotels plans to integrate the hotels into Garden Helsinki and house them within the same building, which will lead to cost savings. Scandic Go will provide ‘space-efficient’ guestrooms with smart storage solutions at an affordable price.

The Scandic hotel will feature double and family rooms, meeting spaces to accommodate up to 250 guests and a bar and restaurant area.

The two new hotels aim to be certified by Nordic Swan Ecolabel, an official eco-certification in the Nordic countries.

The landlord plans to construct the hotels with a focus on sustainability and aim for environmental certifications from LEED or BREEAM.

Earlier this month, Scandic Hotels opened its first hotel under its Scandic Go brand in Stockholm, Sweden, following the renovation of an existing Scandic hotel in Upplandsgatan.
