American hospitality company Sonder Holdings has announced plans to open three new properties in Southern California.

The first two properties are The Winfield and The Craftsman, adaptive reuse projects in downtown Los Angeles.

Sonder area general manager Scott Blakeslee said: “We’re excited to continue expanding in Southern California with the opening of The Winfield and The Craftsman, two incredible historic buildings in Downtown Los Angeles converted to hotels via adaptive reuse. We’ve also added the beautiful Woods Cove in Laguna Beach to our portfolio.

“Our signature design-forward, tech-enabled experience appeals to the next generation of travellers and we look forward to welcoming business and leisure guests to our new properties.”

The Winfield is housed in a revamped historic building that was originally constructed in the late 1920s for retailer Foreman & Clark.

Situated in the Jewellery District, the newly renovated property now offers 125 guestrooms and suites, ranging from queen to penthouse sizes, accommodating up to eight guests.

It has two penthouse suites, offering skyline views at approximately 2,000ft² and 2,800ft².

The hotel also boasts a lobby, a gym, a yoga room, a terrace on the fifth floor and a library lounge.

Meanwhile, The Craftsman was formerly the Lane Mortgage Building, a 12-storey structure designed by architect Loy Lester Smith in 1923.

Located across from the Apple Tower Theatre, the hotel converted from office space is set to open in early 2024.

It will offer 110 rooms of various sizes, ranging from queen to two-bedroom, which can accommodate up to six guests.

The hotel will also have a lobby featuring original tile work by artisan Ernest Batchelder as well as guest spaces with high ceilings, tall windows, white oak finishes and brass accents.

The third hotel is Woods Cove, located near Laguna Beach, marking Sonder’s third property in Orange County.

The newly renovated hotel offers 25 rooms and suites, a rooftop terrace and a swimming pool scheduled to open later this year.

These latest additions join Sonder’s five existing properties in Inglewood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.

Gen Z and their impact on the travel and tourism industry

The medical devices industry is highly regulated and therefore can be slow to adopt new technologies to modernize. However, it is realizing the benefits that AI can bring, and AI is now being used in different areas across the entire value chain. Common use cases include data management, remote surgery, diagnostic and procedural AI assistants, and clinical trial design. GlobalData estimates that the AI in medical devices market is expected to grow at a CAGR of >29% by 2027.
