Work has commenced on the renovation of the Blue Pigeons Hotel in Worth near Deal, UK, reported KentOnline.
A Grade II-listed building, the property had ceased its bar, restaurant, and functions in January 2023 under the previous ownership.
Tom and Jen Kenny, the new owners of the hotel, plan to expand the accommodation capacity and launch a restaurant led by a Michelin-starred chef.
They aim to rejuvenate both the structure and the gardens, with the hotel opening expected in October.
Tom and Jen Kenny said: “We are very grateful for the support we are receiving from the local residents of Worth and the local planning department, who are aware of the condition the building has sunk to. We are very excited to be opening The Blue Pigeons as the pride of Worth, where locals will be proud of this unique venue in their beautiful village.
“We plan to provide a unique garden experience, great food and beverage, and superior accommodation, all perfectly attended by our great colleagues who are delighted to be part of what will be a great experience.”
Their plans encompass a series of upgrades such as installing facilities for disabled guests, enhancing the kitchen, and undertaking essential maintenance like rewiring and replumbing.
The duo have submitted two planning applications to Dover District Council concerning the hotel's refurbishment.
These applications detail the structural repairs and propose a change of use for the second-floor rooms.
This encompasses transforming a former manager's flat into additional guest rooms, increasing the hotel's capacity from six to eight bedrooms, and creating eight parking spaces.
Le Valient Architects is responsible for the renovation designs.
