To mark its sixth anniversary, global travel service provider Trip.com has enhanced its loyalty programme which now features a renewed membership tier mechanism and increased member rewards.

During the promotion campaign running until 31 October 2023, Trip.com members can enjoy additional benefits on top of basic membership privileges.

Membership tier upgrades are determined by the number of valid bookings made within twelve months. Members who attain an upgrade by completing a certain number of bookings will have their new membership tier extended by one year from the date of their upgrade. Trip.com will reset membership tiers according to the member's most recent settlement date.

Customers can sign up for free to become a Silver member to earn rewards and enjoy discounts on bookings, including hotels.

For all member tiers, new emergency assistance will be introduced, offering customers comprehensive assistance services including medical support, help with translation, child repatriation and help with missing baggage. This service is available in all English-language regions.

Platinum and Diamond members additionally enjoy exclusive priority assistance for calls, a chat service with access to a live Trip.com agent, a VIP customer specialists service and free airport VIP lounge access. VIP lounge access is permitted once per calendar year for Platinum members and twice for Diamond members, and is only available in selected regions.

Trip.com COO Schubert Lou commented: "We are thrilled to celebrate this significant milestone as we continue journeying with our valued customers.”

At its recent Global Partner Summit, the company renewed its partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board until 2026.

Cryptocurrency - The world’s most polarizing technology theme

The globalization and digitization of travel and tourism are both driving the demand for easy-to-use and cheap international transaction processes and payment systems. Tourists are beginning to discover that cryptocurrencies offer such opportunities—by simplifying cross-border transactions and overcoming the associated foreign currency exchange costs. At present, cryptocurrencies are the most advanced application of public blockchains that promise benefits such as a universal means of payment and minimal fees through the removal of intermediaries.
