Wharf Hotels has opened the first hotel under its premium lifestyle brand Maqo in Changsha, China, called Maqo Changsha.

Located in the city’s International Finance Square (IFS), the hotel occupies level three and levels eight to 16 of Tower Two.

Wharf Hotels president Thomas Salg said: “We couldn’t be more excited to strengthen our presence in the capital of China’s Hunan province.

“Over the past five years, we have seen the city develop and prosper and with the resounding success of Niccolo Changsha in Tower One of IFS, the opening of Maqo Changsha is in line with our plans to be in growth markets and continue enhancing Changsha as one of China’s top destinations for domestic and international travel.”

The hotel's entrance on level one of IFS features a 10ft-tall statue named Bo Qi, while the lobby on level eight reflects the city’s entertainment and social scene.

Maqo Changsha boasts 286 rooms and suites, situated on levels nine to 16, with each room spanning 35m² to 51m².

The rooms feature four colour themes consisting of cobalt, emerald, magenta and berry.

Dining options at the property include Eat. Drink. Indulge Together (E.D.I.T.); E.D.I.T. 2 GO and MiXR, with all situated on level eight.

E.D.I.T. is an all-dining restaurant offering pan-Asian cuisine, while E.D.I.T. 2 GO serves as a food truck for quick takeaway options.

Guests can also enjoy a selection of handcrafted cocktails, wines and locally brewed spirits, along with live performances at MiXR.

The property has a versatile co-creation space spanning 200m² called THE LAB, which can host exhibitors and entrepreneurs for pop-ups and events.

Among other amenities provided at the hotel include PWR ZONE, a fitness centre with a complete suite of facilities including a gym and a yoga studio.

The hotel is situated in the Furong district and provides guests access to nearby locations such as Orange Island, Jiefangxi Road and Xiang River.

It is also a 40-minute drive from Changsha Huanghua International Airport and a 30-minute drive from Changsha high-speed rail train station.

Cryptocurrency - The world’s most polarizing technology theme

The globalization and digitization of travel and tourism are both driving the demand for easy-to-use and cheap international transaction processes and payment systems. Tourists are beginning to discover that cryptocurrencies offer such opportunities—by simplifying cross-border transactions and overcoming the associated foreign currency exchange costs. At present, cryptocurrencies are the most advanced application of public blockchains that promise benefits such as a universal means of payment and minimal fees through the removal of intermediaries.
