The 24 floor Grand Hyatt Dubai is one of the largest, grandest conference and convention centres in the Middle East. With 674 rooms and 4,340m² of conference space the Grand Hyatt Dubai seeks to create a new concept where business and leisure meet – world-class conference facilities set in the backdrop of a world-class resort.
The Grand Hyatt, which first opened in 2003, is located in Dubai – a gateway between Europe and Asia – and is very well placed for the attractions, amenities and business centres of Dubai. The hotel is just a ten minute drive (5 miles) from Dubai International Airport and five minutes from Dubai’s World Trade Centre. It is five minutes away from the Central Creek area and the Dubai Creek golf and yacht club, three miles from Sharjah City and Mamzar Beach and Park, six miles from the main shopping area, nine miles from Dubai Museum, and 12 miles from Jumeirah Beach.
CONFERENCE FACILITIES
One of the main aims of the Grand Hyatt is to provide world class conference and convention facilities. Over 4,340m² of function space is designed to support a variety of demands. There are two ballrooms, the Baniyas Grand, which can hold up to 2,000 guests and the Al Ameera, which holds up to 800. They are both served by state-of-the-art multimedia facilities.
11 meeting rooms for 15–100 people are complemented by two boardrooms which can host up to 12 people each for executive meetings.
Media support comes in the form of a 24-hour business centre with digital communications technology, private workstations and a dedicated, multi-lingual conference and convention services team that will provide simultaneous translation and secretarial services.
LUXURY RESORT
The Grand Hyatt Dubai also aims to be a world-class resort. The hotel combines luxury facilities with innovative design and architecture. The hotel features 14 restaurants and bars, a spa and fitness centre, tennis courts and a leisure garden. This is set amongst ambitious water features, waterfalls and tropical landscaped gardens, whilst overlooking the dramatic Dubai skyline.
International restaurants provide a wide culinary choice and include Lebanese, Italian, Singaporean, Vietnamese and Japanese. The restaurants are supported by 20 kitchens and more than 350 staff from all over the world. Restaurants include the Panorama Coffee Shop, and the Dhaba Restaurant (with heavy wood furniture and North Indian cuisine amid live folk dancing and singing). The hotel entertainment facilities also include Jimmy Jordan’s Iceberg Discotheque (an ice-themed disco).
DESIGN, ARCHITECTURE AND CONSTRUCTION
Arkiteknik International, the project archtitects, designed the hotel based on a remit that sought a contemporary design that drew on traditional Arab culture. Built on a 37-acre site almost 18,000m³ of concrete and 20,000m² of glazing went into the construction. Other contractors carrying out work on the hotel included: Polytown Co Ltd (building and project management), Ssangyong Engineering & Construction (civil engineering), Bilt Middle East (mechanical, electrical and plumbing), Al Khatib Cracknell (landscaping architects), Swissboring Overseas Corporation Ltd (piling and foundations), DEPA [Depa United Group PJSC] (interior design and contracting), Hirsch Bedner Associates (hotel design), Thomas Bell Wright International Consultants (façade, curtain walling and cladding), Aluminium & Light Industries Co Limited (curtain wall and cladding). Over 4,000 builders and craftsmen have been employed since construction began.
