Marriott International opened a new Courtyard brand hotel in Puxi, Shanghai, China in August 2010. The 456-room hotel is the world’s third largest Marriott Courtyard brand hotel. It is also the largest of the Courtyard brand portfolio in China. The other two hotels in the portfolio are a 364-room Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai Xujiahui and a 318-room Courtyard by Marriott Hotel Shanghai Pudong.
Gain Year Development Real Estate Shanghai Company owns the hotel and Marriott International operates it under a long-term management agreement.

The Courtyard brand hotels are designed for leisure and business travellers. Around 900 hotels are operated in about 35 countries under the brand. Introduced by Marriott International in 1983 in the US, Courtyard is the 12th largest hotel brand in the world. The hotels are aimed at attracting mid-tier travellers with a presence in the suburbs and vibrant cities. The Courtyard brand is expanding globally integrating the cultural aspects of regional customers.
Development
The Marriott Shanghai Puxi is located in the cultural and economic centre of Puxi in Zhabei District. This convenient location makes the Courtyard hotel an ideal leisure and business destination.
The hotel is situated close to the Shanghai Metro and the Shanghai Railway Station. It provides easy access to several city attractions such as the main shopping street of Shanghai – Nanjing Road West, People’s Square and Jing An Temple. It is also close to Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport.
Marriott Shanghai design
The new Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai Puxi hotel is designed to incorporate flexible space and an open layout. It has an open-space lobby, with a business centre and lounge areas.
The rooms feature bright colours and contemporary furniture with luxury amenities for guests. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool and a 24-hour fitness centre. An executive lounge is also featured on the 30th floor, offering panoramic views of Shanghai city skyline. The hotel has underground parking.
Accommodation
The Courtyard Shanghai Puxi hotel features 284 deluxe rooms, 76 premier rooms, 56 executive rooms and 40 suites. The 36m²-45m² executive rooms are located on 27th-30th floors. They offer executive lounge benefits and panoramic views of the city.
The deluxe rooms, which are of contemporary design, range from 36m²-45m². They each have an LCD TV, internet access, a work desk with ergonomic chair, a sofa and fully controllable air conditioning.
The suites are of contemporary design and feature a 37-inch LCD TV, sofa, work space, stylish bathroom and have the benefits of the executive lounge including Wi-Fi.
The hotel rooms have satellite TV, iHome docking stations, internet access, a mini-bar, in-room safes, ironing facilities and IDD telephones with voice mail.
Dining facilities
The MoMo Café restaurant accommodates 170 guests. It offers a variety of menus from western to local dishes. A MoMo 2 Go counter is made available for guests opting for light dinner, beverages and snacks.
The lobby lounge with 131 seats and six LCD TVs offers light dining with a selection of beer, wine and cocktails.
The MoMo Café, MoMo 2 Go and lounges provide coffee, casual dining and cocktails throughout the day.
Marriott conference facilities
The hotel has five meeting rooms with 500m² of space. It includes four function rooms and a grand ballroom.
The 315m² ballroom can accommodate 260 guests and can be divided into three sections for different events.
The meeting rooms are provided with wired and wireless internet access, audio-visual equipment polling devices, microphone and portable stage.
The business equipment in the hotel includes computers and printers with services such as post, copy, fax, secretarial and translation also offered.
A full-service business centre is located at the lobby level. Catering and event management services are also available.
