The hotel occupies a dramatic position among the regenerated South Bank’s striking architectural and historical landmarks and is located opposite the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. The rooms feature air conditioning, bespoke furniture, the latest in-room technology, flatscreen televisions, wireless internet connectivity, a work desk and tea and coffee-making facilities.
Dining at the Park Plaza
The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge offers several dining options. The Brasserie Joel restaurant specialises in French cuisine and the 1WB Lounge & Patisserie serves afternoon tea, pastries and chocolates.
The Espressamente Illy Coffee Bar is an authentic Italian cafe featuring indoor and outdoor seating. Ichi Sushi & Sashimi Bar is a Japanese sushi restaurant. The Primo Bar serves a variety of cocktails. The hotel also provides a 24-hour, in-room dining service.
Meeting facilities
The hotel has meeting space for up to 1,400 guests in its Westminster Ballroom. An additional 31 meeting rooms are available for hosting boardroom-style meetings.
Park Plaza contractors
The new 14-storey concept hotel was developed by the Park Plaza Hotel Group (Park Plaza has given the name to the hotel and manages it as a franchise) in conjunction with Gear Construction Project Management (The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London is their largest hotel management contract to date).
The new hotel was designed by BUJ Architects and Uri Blumenthal Architects & Town Planners.
Eco-friendly features
Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London features some of the latest eco-friendly technologies in order to limit its impact on the environment, for example, the hotel has an on-site filtered water bottling ‘factory’ (carbon filter process), which eliminates the need to transport and dispose of an estimated one million bottles of water per year.
The hotel also uses the latest building insulation technology with triple glazed, energy-retaining cladding to maximise energy efficiency.
Furthermore, the hotel produces 15% of its own energy using a biomass electric generator.
The construction also recycled 4,500m³ of concrete from the demolished GLC building that was retained on site for use in the new-build process.
Finance for Park Plaza Westminster Bridge
The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel development made a significant contribution to the regeneration of the area out of a total investment of £300m, with £4.6m allocated to local regeneration schemes including public transport, employment and the training of local people.
A further £1.6m was allocated for the creation of a landscaped public space around the hotel.
Project history
The hotel project was first put forward in October 2005, when financial investment partners Galliard Homes, Frogmore Property Company and Eurosea Hotels planned the project.
The investors then linked up with Park Plaza Hotels Europe to develop the project further as a franchise and put the successful brand name to work. Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts is part of Carlson Hotels Worldwide.
