The Westminster Hotel in Livingston, New Jersey, US, is a $25m hotel rehabilitation and reconstruction project that features 183 guestrooms, including ten suites. It also houses 16,000ft² of banquet and conference facilities, an indoor heated swimming pool, fitness facilities and the Westminster Club, an area dedicated to the needs of business travellers with special guestrooms, workstations, communications equipment and a club lounge.
The Westminster Hotel is owned and operated by the Westminster Hospitality Group, an affiliate of Kushner Companies.
Accommodation at the Westminster Hotel
The Westminster Hotel has 183 guestrooms including ten suites. The guest rooms are categorised as standard rooms, club level rooms, and Westminster club level rooms. All rooms are provided with Hollandia International mattresses and sleep systems.
The Westminster Club level rooms are located in an exclusive wing and cater to business travellers. Guests have access to the Westminster Club, a private club. Guests can also use workstations with internet access, fax, copy and printing facilities available in the hotel’s own business centre, with wireless internet access available in the Club’s public areas.
J / Brice Design International, Inc of Boston designed the guestrooms at the Westminster Hotel, with features such as oversized desks, pull-out ottomans and leather-covered bedside lamps and headboards.
All rooms offer two T1 access points for high-speed internet access, two-line cordless phones, a voicemail service and fax machines, which are available on request. Other room facilities include a mini bar, safe, valet dry cleaning and laundry services.
The interiors are designed with natural finishes, wood tones and brushed nickel. All luxury guestrooms have triple-sheeted king-size beds, down-filled bed pillows and crisp, ecru and sage duvet covers.
Meetings and weddings
A total area of 16,000ft² is designated for banquets, meetings and conferences. Wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel’s public areas and conference attendants can follow events on plasma screens installed in the lobby and pre-function areas. LCD touch-screens outside the meeting rooms can be used to post browsable information about schedules and upcoming events. In addition, the hotel can arrange on-site audio video resources and video-conferencing facilities for business travellers.
The Westminster Hotel was designed with weddings in mind, accommodating anything from wedding ceremonies to cocktail receptions and banquets. Ceremonies can be held at the Westminster Ballroom or the atrium pool area, the latter boasting vaulted ceilings and lighting equipment to create special lighting effects.
The bride can be accommodated in a special Deluxe Bridal Suite with private entrance, spacious rooms and features including a large mirror, bathrobe, slippers, and champagne and strawberries.
Cocktail receptions and pre-function festivities can be held at Victoria Hall, a 5,000ft² room that accommodates up to 480 people. The Victoria Hall has a separate private entrance, lighting systems, plush carpeting and chandeliers before moving to the Westminster Ballroom, which has luxurious fabrics and wall coverings.
Special services available on request include valet parking, cloakroom attendance and limousine services.
The Westminster Grand Ballroom holds up to 1,020 people and the 1,400ft² patio can accommodate up to 75 people.
Dining at the Westminster Hotel
The Westminster Hotel Livingston’s restaurant is the 120-seat Strip House, modelled after the original, award-winning Strip House in New York City. Designed by Rockwell Group, the restaurant has wall-to-wall windows and an elegant décor. In addition to the evening menu, the restaurant serves continental breakfast on weekdays.
The restaurant also offers in-room dining. In addition, the Strip house bar and lounge specialises in cocktails.
An agreement with Glazier Group of Manhattan has been reached to provide food and beverages such as banquets, catering and room services throughout the hotel.
Health and fitness
Guests at the Westminster Hotel can request health and beauty treatments at the spa, which also offers massages and facials. Guests can also make use of the health and fitness centre’s exercise equipment and the indoor heated swimming pool.
Other facilities
The Westminster Hotel’s own data network includes an energy management system that controls thermostats in the guestrooms using motion and occupancy sensors.
The hotel’s security system comprises extensive CCTV installations connected to a high-tech security system capable of recording up to 30 days of data.

The architect of the Westminster Hotel was Rotwein & Blake, Associated Architects PA, with guestroom design by J / Brice Design International, Inc.
Manhattan-based Glazier Group was awarded the contract to supply food and beverage services.
